Woke up at 8 and met the crew at nine for the Iona trip. We got to Honan, and there is a full bus! It turns out that a lot of international students from other countries went on this trip. I heard a bunch of languages that sounded like Eastern European being spoken by a bunch of girls that had long noses and green eyes. There was also a tall black guy. We had to sit in the back of the bus, and i sat in the very back next to Richard. He kept trying to talk to me, but i was falling asleep hardcore. The cup of tea i had drank earlier was not helping me any. Eventually, he offered me music, and i declined and fell asleep. Next thing i know, we are there!
Kilkenney is one of 6 Irish Cities, said Richard. He said that anything over like 15k pop is a city around here. We get off the bus and then head to Kilkenny castle. We get in there, and the tour guide lady said no photography. So i decided to pull a telford and sneak some pictures. Heh. We walked into a dining room, and learned all about the Butlers, the most prominent Kilkenny family. They had gutted most of the original furniture out of the castle, and the tour guide lady made absolutely sure we knew which pieces were authentic or not.
Tour guide lady talking about the couch in the big living room- “The two lovers had to sit back to back, so that they wouldn’t do naughty things, like touch eachother. The two other quadrants are for chaperones, to prevent them from doing naughty things. But see, there is room for a hand right there, so they could maybe hold hands, or pass little love notes to eachother, that might say to meet at a place without chaperones....now isn’t that naughty? Tim and i lol'ed about that one. Then, we went to the bedrooms and stuff with the short beds for sleeping upright, and then this long room with paintings of ugly inbred british people. There was one called like the avarice or something, which had people turning their back to the church.
We left the castle and Hatt and i broke off from the group, we got some chips and burgers at this stand. Then i wandered around and found Tim and Richard and dudders and Pattie in the pub, and Richard gave me about half a pint of smitticks to finish off. Yay!.
Then we set out and got lost on the way to the next attraction. Hannah and matt get in argument over music, and listening to a variety and musical tastes. Jen says “Do they always fight like that?” and then Matt gets pissed as hell for about 30 min. Then, we went to this St. Candices church and saw some cool stained glass and other stuff. I climbed the round tower, and it was really cold and windy on top, but it had a nice view. Then, i took like 30 pictures of this cherry tree and told Matt about how i farted inside of the tower, when I was climbing up infront of everyone. Sorry, people.
Then we got on the bus and went to the Capuchian friary. The monk there talked about how the friary is used for confessions most of all. An old irish man walked in and muttered to us “say your prayers”. I felt bad for the monks, they didn’t have that good of a place, and one was crippled.
Then we got on the bus and drove outside the town to Jerpoint Abbey. It was a massive hulking ruin, that was cool. Tim and i went on the inside first and took a bunch of pictures. Then, we went and got a tour of it. The tour guide talked about how the monks were only allowed to sit by the fire for 10 minute intervals, 3 times a day. That would suck. Then, she showed us these tombs, and a bird shit on my backpack. Luckily it didn’t stink.
Then we went back, and Matt and i made lamb chops. I kind of burnt one. Then, i worked on my paper more and studied for Shaky's class. I think i am starting to get burned out from traveling all of the time, because some of these sites are starting to all look the same. Maybe it’s good that April is coming soon.
